Our Process

Every job Munford Duct & Chimney Cleaning performs follows a consistent, systematic process developed over more than a decade of hands-on work in Richmond, VA. Here's what you can expect from the moment you schedule to the moment we leave.

Equipment We Use

HEPA-Rated Negative Air Machines

Professional-grade vacuum units with HEPA filtration that capture 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger, preventing cleaned debris from re-entering your living space.

Rotary Brush Systems

Flexible rod and brush systems sized for round and rectangular ductwork. These agitate packed debris from duct walls so it can be extracted cleanly by the vacuum unit.

Chimney Inspection Camera

High-definition camera systems allow us to inspect the full length of a flue liner for cracks, deterioration, blockages, and creosote staging that isn't visible from below.

01

Initial Call & Scheduling

When you call or submit a request online, Toby or a team member will talk through your situation — what type of property you have, when ducts were last cleaned, any specific concerns like dust buildup, allergy symptoms, or odors. We provide a straightforward quote and schedule a time that works for you. We don't give vague estimates or bait-and-switch pricing.

02

Pre-Job Assessment

On arrival, a technician walks the property to locate all supply and return registers, assess duct configuration, and identify any access points. For chimney work, we inspect the firebox, damper, and exterior cap. This walkthrough helps us build an accurate picture of the scope and flag anything unusual before equipment is set up — no surprises mid-job.

03

Diagnostic Inspection

Before cleaning begins, we use professional diagnostic tools to evaluate the duct system or chimney. This includes airflow checks at registers, inspection of accessible ductwork sections for contamination type, and — for chimneys — a visual or camera inspection of the flue. We document what we find so you know exactly what's there and what we're removing.

04

Setup & Containment

We protect your home throughout the job. Drop cloths are placed at all work areas. For duct cleaning, we seal off registers not being serviced to isolate the cleaning zone. Our HEPA-rated negative air machines create negative pressure inside the duct system, so dislodged debris is drawn toward the collection unit rather than released into your living space. For chimney work, we seal the firebox opening with a drop sheet before brushing begins.

05

Systematic Cleaning

Cleaning proceeds methodically, starting at the farthest points of the duct system and working back toward the main trunk and air handler. We use rotary brush systems and high-powered negative air vacuums to agitate and extract buildup from duct walls. For chimney work, appropriately sized brushes are worked top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top depending on access, with full removal of creosote, soot, and debris from the flue, smoke shelf, and firebox.

06

Final Inspection & Walkthrough

After cleaning is complete, we inspect all serviced areas one final time. Registers and access panels are secured. Any concerns identified during the job — a damaged duct section, a cracked flue tile, evidence of moisture intrusion — are shown to the homeowner and explained clearly. We provide honest recommendations and, where repairs are needed, a clear explanation of what's involved and why.

Industry Standards We Follow

NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association)

NADCA's ACR standard defines source removal as the only acceptable duct cleaning method — physical removal of contaminants from the system, not surface wiping or chemical fogging alone. Our process is built around this requirement.

NFPA 211 (Chimney, Fireplace, and Venting Systems)

NFPA 211 provides the standard for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of chimneys, fireplaces, vents, and solid-fuel-burning appliances. Our chimney inspections and cleanings are performed in alignment with these guidelines.
